A large calabash and a lidded bowl, probably Ethiopian Large wooden jug with a hollow, woven base for carrying on the head. Painted all over and decorated with brass figures and cowrie scrolls. The stopper crowned with a seated male figure, the lower part with a casting flaw. Height approx. 56 cm. Comes with a deep wooden bowl for hanging on braided leather straps decorated with cowrie snails and glass beads. A small chip to the inner lip of the lid. Diameter approx. 20 cm, height w.D. approx. 28 cm. Condition: II -

Enthält ein Porträt eines Ehepaares, auf zwei Platten und als Diptychon gerahmt. Ferner drei männliche Porträts sowie das eines kleinen Kindes. Die Porträts waren wohl ursprünglich alle in zweiteilige Klapprahmen eingefasst. Lediglich solcher des Ehepaares sowie der des Kindes sind noch intakt und vollständig vorhanden. Diese je aufwändig verziert mit reicher Blindprägung auf Deckeln. - In den Rändern oxidiert. Teils fleckig. Collection of six early daguerrotypes with portraits. Around 1860. Each decoratively framed under glass (unopened), some with decorative borders. - Includes a portrait of a married couple, on two plates and framed as a diptych. Also three male portraits and that of a young child. The portraits were probably all originally framed in two-part hinged frames. Only those of the couple and the child are still intact and complete. These each elaborately decorated with rich blind embossing on covers. - Oxidized in the margins. Partly spotted.

Blattmaße je ca. 15 x 19 cm. Meist mit Beschriftungen in englischer und lateinischer Sprache. - Die Blätter scheinen einem professionellen ornithologischen Zeichenalbum zu entstammen. Enthalten sind sowohl europäische als auch außereuropäische Arten, es überwiegen dabei Enten- und Hühnervögel. Dargestellt sind unter anderem ein Kernbeißer, ein Halsbandfrankolin, Löffelenten, Persische Sandhühner und Büschelenten. Die Vögel werden meist in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung gezeigt, einige Blätter bilden zudem auch das Gelege ab. Einige der Zeichnungen scheinen inspiriert von dem erstmals zwischen 1851-1857 erschienen Werk "A History of British Birds" von Rev. F.O. Morris. - Verso vereinzelt mit Spuren früherer Montierung. Einige auf Trägerpapier montiert. In den Rändern teils unscheinbar gebräunt und vereinzelt gering braunfleckig. Insgesamt sehr gut erhaltene und vielfältige Sammlung. Ornithology - Collection of 39 original drawings with depictions of birds. Probably England, mid 19th century. Pen and watercolour on chamois-coloured paper. - Mostly with captions in English and Latin. - The sheets appear to come from a professional ornithological drawing album. They contain both European and non-European species, with a predominance of duck and partridge birds. Among others, a hawfinch, a collared francolin, spoonbills, Persian sandgrouse and tufted ducks are depicted. The birds are mostly shown in their natural environment, with some sheets also depicting the clutch of eggs. Some of the drawings appear to have been inspired by the work "A History of British Birds" by Rev. F.O. Morris, first published between 1851-1857. Morris. - Partly with traces of earlier mounting on verso. Some mounted on backing paper. Some inconspicuous browning in margins and occasional minor brownstaining. Overall a very well-preserved and varied collection.
