A German rock crystal seal, circa 1900 Cylindrical seal of clear, finely cut rock crystal. Ribbon bows and garlands over a surrounding ornament of stylized leaves. One end with cut monogram "SR", the second with family coat of arms (wheat grasses in a shield). One edge slightly chipped. In original velvet-lined case with maker's mark "Gebr. Nathan kgl. Hoflieferanten Hamburg". Length 7.5 cm, diameter 1.9 cm. Provenance: British matrix collection David Morris. Condition: I - II

The translucent stone with dark specks. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
