Josef Anton Strassgschwandtner - A Horse Trio, Austrian, dated 1849 Chalk on paper. Lively drawing of three horse heads in bridles. Signed "Anton Strassgschwandtner" and dated "849" lower left. In wide passepartout and thick, stuccoed gilded wooden strip frame (corners bumped), behind glass. Overall dimensions 43.5 x 38 cm. Anton Strassgschwandtner (1826 - 1881) was a prolific and respected Austrian horse, hunting and military genre painter as well as a lithographer (highly esteemed as such) and collector of weapons. As a member of the Vienna Artists' Cooperative, his numerous clients included hunting associations, the high nobility and the Imperial and Royal Army. Army; a street in Vienna was also named after him. Condition: II +
