An Austrian sketch with enthroned Christ by Moritz von Schwind, 19th century Pencil and watercolor on transparent paper. Sketchy design (for a frieze?) with the Resurrection of Christ in unusual iconography. On the left an angel receives St. Hieronimus(?), in the middle the four apostles and the three Marys gather around the open and empty coffin. One of the women is pointing towards the enthroned Messiah in the right half of the picture. Signed "Schwind" in the lower right corner. Measures 16 x 43 cm. Moritz von Schwind (1804 - 1871) was a well-known Austrian painter and draughtsman of the late Romantic period with a particular fondness for religious and mythological motifs. Condition: II - III
