Carnevale di Roma in four etchings, probably Rome, 19th century Etchings colored in gouache with festive scenes from Rome at carnival time. Each inscribed on the lower edge (one sheet illegible): "Il Festino in Masquera", "Carnevale in Trastevere" and "Carnevale al Corso". Gilt and glazed wooden profile frames, each with eyelets and slightly rubbed. References to Cristian Georg Schütz on the verso. Dimensions 14 x 18.5 cm to 16.5 x 20.5 cm. Condition: II

Rare engraving depicting the panorama of the city of Rome on which stands a coat of arms with the inscription SPQR ripping through the clouds. Bottom 12 explanatory captions. Easily recognizable St. Peter's and Castel Sant'Angelo, while trees and hills loom in the distance. The engraving was made before 1694, the year of Wagner's death. C. In addition to the ancient monuments, the view also includes numerous modern architectures in the north-eastern part of Rome, such as the church of S. Maria di Loreto, Villa Medici, the Quirinale and Cardinal Mazarin's palace at the Quattro Fontane. Copper engraving, (500 x 980mm). repaired tear to left margin, joints reinforced, otherwise good.
