Description

A bronze Viking chape, 10th century A chape tapering upwards and downwards, the upper edge slightly concave at the falling halves, the lower edges slightly curved outwards. Identical decoration on the front and back: the upper and lower rims slightly raised and merging into a fleur-de-lis in the inner spandrels. The upper, extended rim merging into a stylized animal head. The lower tip terminated by a spherical double cone. A small hole on one side due to a casting error during manufacture. The piece otherwise without secondary defects and perfectly preserved, with an exceptionally beautiful gray-blue patina. Provenance: South German private collection, acquired at the beginning of the millennium in the South German art trade. Condition: I
