Description

A Roman pelta-shaped chape, late 2nd - mid-3rd century A.D. Bronze sheet chape in the shape of a pelta, with two rolled cut-outs at the top. The back is flat with a rivet hole for fastening. The front side profiled: approx. 2 - 4 mm from the edge, the inner surface set off upwards by a step, a ridge in the middle. Tin-plated surface. Crack along the outer edge on the back, two small holes along the edge on the front. Otherwise extremely well preserved local band with beautifully preserved tinning. Height 5 cm. Width 6 cm. Provenance: Munich private collection, acquired at the beginning of the millennium in the southern German art trade. Condition: II -
