Description

A Corinthian aryballos with four-leaf motif, 1st half of the 6th century B.C. An ointment jar made of beige clay with a globular belly, a short and narrow cylindrical neck and a broad, horizontally outward-running rim with a vertically hanging lip. A short, ribbon-shaped handle on the back between the rim and shoulder. Painted with a quatrefoil motif on the front and sides. The leaves reddish, the network and other ornaments in between sienna-colored. Rim and lip painted with sienna-colored, round stripes and lines. Apart from a small chip on the upper edge of the rim, intact. Painting excellently preserved apart from minimal abrasions. Height 6.7 cm. Width 6.7 cm. Provenance: Frankfurt private collection. Acquired at Hermann Historica in April 2016 (auction 72, lot 4578). Condition: I - II
