Description

A Chinese bronze sword, Eastern Zhou, 5th - 3rd century B.C. Worked in one piece. Blade with a central ridge and almost parallel cutting edges, tapering almost imperceptibly towards the point. The round-handled grip terminated at the bottom by a flat quillons, rhombic in plan view. Two disks in the center of the grip, a bowl-shaped pommel on top. Dark patina. Small nicks in the area of the point, otherwise intact. Length 45 cm. Provenance: Frankfurt private collection. Acquired in April 2016 at Hermann Historica (auction 73, lot 4544). Previously Rhenish private collection, taken over from the father's estate, acquired by him in the 1960s to 1980s. Condition: II -
