A Sogdian silver bowl with incised floral decoration, 7th - 8th century Round silver bowl with flat base and raised rim. A base plate foot attached to the underside by soft soldering with a 1.4 cm high, outward-sloping stand ring. Traces of antique workmanship (fine fluting from smoothing the surface) over the entire underside. The inside largely smooth with minimal traces of turning. The rim folded inwards to a width of approx. 8 mm and reinforcing it. In the center within a circle a star-like motif (blossom) with leaves between the rays. Outside the circle floral incised decoration with tendrils, leaves and flowers. Diameter 23.9 cm. Height 6.5 cm. Spotty patina, smaller areas with overlays of green oxides. One half pressed down by impact from above and deformed in the lateral profile, some cracks in the wall. Overall stable condition. A good example of Central Asian toreutics from late antique Sogdiana. Provenance: East German private collection, acquired in the late 1990s in the southern German art trade. Condition: II - III
