GAUTHIER (Théophile). FORTUNIO. Textual reprint of the original edition. 24 original lithographs by A. LUNOIS in color. Paris, Librairie des Bibliophiles, 1898. In-4, green half-cornered morocco, edged with gilded fillet, smooth spine faded to fawn, title at the top edged with wide black bands, floral decoration in 3 boxes, with a tulip stem with leaves on a black background at each corner, the flower is mosaicked in red, in the center of the box, a flower with stem, head mosaicked in red, the center one features a crossed trumpet iron, the whole set in a double gilded frame: pearled fillet, the other simple, marbled boards and endpapers, Binding by Carayon, original cover boards and spine, preserved, Portrait phot de Th. Gauthier in frontispiece, opposite, a lithographed illustrated title depicting an Arab guard with saber and spear, by Félix Milius with callback, 178pp. Edition of 600 copies, of which 100 on Japon or chine. An exceptional copy, the only one printed for the artist Alexandre Lunois, to which the author has affixed the following signed dispatch. "L'exemplaire que l'on doit me donner, n'arrive pas, comme je ne veux pas faire vous attendre, je vous envoie mon exemplaire en souvenir indirect de votre bien dévoué, Alex. Lunois." In addition to the normal lithographs, this copy contains 19 full-page drawings, mainly with watercolors and initials "G L", 81 B/W proofs, on various prints and papers, some with callbacks, others cancelled, 24 in color + 19 very fine B/W lithographs with callbacks by Félix Milius, 182 pieces in all. Sporadic foxing, mostly marginal, rarely affecting the illustrations.
