BAUDELAIRE (Charles). LES FLEURS DU MAL. Paris, librairie des Amateurs, F. Ferroud, 1910. Small in-4, black half-maroquin with corners, edged with a gilt fillet, and with ivory aged morocco boards, decorated with a faded cold-plate decoration, (large frame with swan motifs, fleurons then central frame representing 2 nude women in a garden where swans are frolicking). Spine decorated with a central devil motif mosaic in black, fawn and red, author, title and head gilt, cover and spine preserved (binding by Ch. Septier). The flyleaves are decorated with 4 original gouaches by C. Fayot in connection with the poems' texts, accompanied by 6 large preparatory pencil drawings on tracing paper. An original watercolor by Rochegrosse (unsigned) adorns the faux-title. A portrait of Charles Baudelaire engraved by Decizy with a cat as a remark. Four of the 6 titles are enriched with unsigned engravings by Decizy after Rochegrosse, consisting of a title surmounting a color floral medallion in which the motif is inscribed (Spleen et idéal, Tableaux Parisiens, Le Vin, Révolte). As announced, the work is illustrated with 27 etched compositions by Rochegrosse (20 h.-t), including the frontispiece and 6 h.-t. bands in black, and a colored title finial. Edition of 1200 copies, this one on Arches vellum with the watermark of "Librairie des Amateurs, F. Ferroud". A very fine copy.
