Nouvelle édition, soigneusement conférée sur l'originale, avec des notes et des additions tirées des auteurs anciens et modernes, et des géographes arabes, par L. Langlès, auteur de l'alphabet Tartare Mantchou, etc. Paris, Pierre Didot l'Ainé, 1795-1798. 3 vols. in-4, contemporary binding in empire green long-grained half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons, red edges; LV-176, 256, 392 pp. illustrated with 3 frontispieces, 159 plates and maps, some folding, and 9 plates of decorative elements. Slight restorations to bindings, upper jaw of T. III cracked over a few cm, small worm's work on T.1, extending over a few pages without affecting the text, one page angularly missing on T.1, a few pale freckles, small marginal wetness on the first 50 pages of T. 3, good overall condition. Second French edition published in 1795 by orientalist Louis Langlès (1763-1824). Until the publication of l'Expédition d'Égype in 1809, this valuable account was to remain the most comprehensive study of Egyptian antiquities. The first French edition appeared in Copenhagen in 1755, in two folio volumes. (Brunet IV-101, Graesse IV-686). A fine copy.
