Description

Antoni POINCARÉ (1825-1811) Inspecteur des Ponts et Chaussées, father of the President of the Republic. Combinaison des effets barométriques de la révolution synodique et de la rotation terrestre, en la durée des différents mois synodiques d'une année et de chaque jour desdits mois, October 1903; autographed publication, small folio (31 x 21 cm), 6 stapled fascicles in 4 folders numbered 1 to 4, all placed in an annotated folder (small tear to last leaf); 62p. n.ch. autographed and 5 out-of-text graphs, 1 handwritten and 4 autographed. Rare autographed memoir, with autograph dispatch. In this memoir, the author studies synodic revolution, the time interval between two successive transits of a planet or satellite in a given situation, as well as syzygy, the situation where three celestial objects (usually the Sun, Earth and Moon) are in conjunction or opposition. Its study comprises three chapters: I. Case of a median synodic month, at the end of which the axis of symmetry of the deviations is found, reversed, appreciably on the meridian of the original syzygy. - II. General case. Situation of the symmetry axes at the time of the original syzygy, on successive days of the other months. - III. Rolling of snapshots on a given day, counted from the hour corresponding to the month's original syzygy to the return of said hour. Result of mixing the synodic and daily waves on each of the 29 days. Diurnal variations. 348-degree wave at different latitudes.Numerous tables with figures, as well as 5 graphs showing the oscillations of the monthly synodic wave, illustrate this study. Autograph letter signed on first page: "A la Société Française de Physique. Hommage de l'auteur A. Poincaré"; stamp of this society affixed on several occasions.
