François-Aymar de monteil. Autograph notes and partly autograph manuscripts; approx. 150 pages in various formats, mostly fol. On a project to reform the Royal Navy Ordinance of August 1681. - Monteil's autograph copy of the elements making up a 2-volume collection of ordinances, with indication of placement and subject of vignettes (and pencil drawing of a vignette depicting two ships): "Du pouvoir, fonctions et devoirs des officiers", "Des brigades de la marine", "Du corps d'artillerie", etc., followed by "Idees sur larangement des mattieres que lon propose de traiter dans une compilation generale, des reglemens de marine", in the form of a table of contents. - Premier Entretien and Second Entretien, netted in 2 sewn notebooks (with ms summary attached). Appreciation of the ordinance, which "is truly a new military legislation", and commentary enamelled with excerpts from Frederick II's Art of War, where he foresees an exaltation of the soldier's qualities. Follows the manuscript of chapter 3, "Des armemens extraordinaires de l'Europe dans le XVIII siècle".On signals. Flames and flags on the mizzen mast and yard, or on the mainmast, or on the foremast... Anchor signals (day and night)... "Notices for fog cases", in 4 articles...
