Description

Henry Wadsworth LONGFELLOW (1807-1882). L.A.S., Cambridge [Massachusetts] July 7, 1857; 2 1/2 pages in-8 (traces of glue on spine); in English. He sends a portrait of his correspondent on a visit, for six weeks, the length of the College vacation which is just beginning: "I send you, on a visit only, and have given it permission to pass six weeks with you, that being the length of the College vacation which is just beginning". He leaves in a few days for Nahant, where he will receive his correspondent if he comes to Boston during the summer. They will be very happy to see him; and as there is a steamer four times a day, and trains to Lynn, he will not find the journey long nor tedious: "as there is a steamer, four times a day, and train to Linn, without number, you will not find the journey long nor tedious"...
