"My uncle had for your venerable father [...] too lively an affection; I heard him too often extol the eminent qualities of his aide-de-camp de Beurnonville". He in turn honors "the memory of the old servant of the monarchy with a token of sympathy and gratitude. The Colonel of the 6th Regiment of the Royal Guard was in his military life the model of devotion and honor. In his voluntary retirement, and right up to his last hour, he preserved the cult of principles outside of which he saw for his country neither greatness nor salvation. If he had the pain of breaking his sword, he was at least still able to serve France by the example of his fidelity". The baron and his brother can be "proud of the name you bear"... Enclosed is a vintage copy of the count's proclamation to the French, October 25, 1852.
