Description

Maurice HENNEQUIN (1863-1926). 4 L.A.S., Paris December 1899-November 1900, to Otto Eisenschitz; 10pages in-8. About Eisenchitz's adaptation of his play Coralie et Cie for Germany and Austria. Transactions with theater directors are difficult, and he regrets that his collaborator Valabrègue has accepted Vienna's offer. He hoped that "your adaptation will also be performed in Berlin once it has become a success in Vienna, but first a Berlin director has to ask for our play... and we're waiting! But in November 1900, Eisenschitz is still waiting for the censor's authorization! Hennequin hopes that "this play will be as successful in Vienna as it was in Paris: 180 performances! And it will be revived! Besides, Coralie has been a huge success everywhere: in America, Belgium, Holland and Hungary, as I'm sure you know! We'll soon be doing the play in London"... He congratulates him on the success of Georges Duval's Voyage autour du Code, which he adapted, and on Le Boudoir bleu. But he returned his play La plus belle femme de Paris, for which he saw "no possible success in Paris"... Enclosed are 4 l.a.s. to Eisenschitz, about his plays and their adaptation, by Antony Mars and Étienne Rey.
