Charles GOUNOD (1818-1893). L.A.S., December 9, 1868, to the publisher Choudens; 2 pages in-8. He is in the Alps: "This morning we are going to cross Mont-Cenis by the new method, of which I will give you news if we don't tumble to the bottom of the precipices". He asks Sister Saint-Paul of the Sainte-Ursule convent in Grenoble, who turns out to be an excellent musician, to send a copy of the piano, organ and chant parts of the Cantique après la Communion as soon as it appears. He told Hébert "of your promise to send and offer to the Académie de France in Rome the collection of my works. He acknowledged this with present joy and anticipated gratitude". He expects to be in Rome on Saturday.Attached is a L.A.S. from Alfred Cortot, March 5, 1915; and a facsimile letter from Boieldieu.
