[Francis GARNIER (1839-1873) naval officer and explorer of Tonkin.] 3 documents, 1874-1883. December 1874. Announcement of the service du bout de l'an (in-4, mourning). "You are requested to attend the Service du Bout de l'An which will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 22, 1874, at 10 a.m. sharp, in the Eglise St Germain-des-Prés (Chapelle des Apôtres), for the repose of the Soul of Monsieur Francis Garnier, Lieutenant de Vaisseau, Officier de la Légion d'honneur"...[Saïgon circa 1882]. Photography: Project for a monument to be erected by subscription in Saigon in memory of Francis Garnier and his comrades in arms. Presented by M. Foulhoux, architect. Laminated photograph on heavy paper, with printed label laminated in the lower margin. 18.3 x 10.5 cm on card 32.4 x 24.6 cm (folded at center, traces of oxidation). Model of the monument to be erected in Saigon. The project by Alfred Foulhoux (1840-1892) was not selected; the one by Tony-Noël (1845-1909) was built (no longer extant).L'Indépendant de Saigon.
