Description

Paul ADAM (1862-1920). Autograph manuscript signed, La Fin de l'Aventure, [1901]; 8pages in-fol. with erasures and corrections. On the European intervention against the Boxer revolt, and the muddled situation at the end of the operation, characterized by a waltz-hesitation of the intervening powers after the suppression of the movement, especially with regard to the repatriation of the expeditionary corps. "Tired of having uselessly demanded barbaric vengeance, Europe, along with the United States and Japan, is preparing to recall international troops from China. At least diplomats are announcing it. Even the names of the ships destined for the repatriations are mentioned. But, in fact, no power is actively undertaking the return operations"... Etc.
