At issue were its rather massive, angular lines and the disappearance of wood in favor of matte-black plastic, very much in vogue in the 70s. Despite the oil shocks of the '70s, the number of cylinders of the new model won over the hearts of Jaguar aficionados, as did the more popular BMW 6-series and Mercedes slc 500. Proof of its success was its 21-year production run, from 1975 to 1996. The Jaguar XJS Cabriolet is an iconic car that embodies classic British luxury and style. It is part of Jaguar's legendary line of XJ models, renowned for their comfort, style and performance, and today considered a timeless icon of British automotive design. Unloved by purists who only had eyes for the 911, it was primarily intended for the American market, with its innovative design reflecting the aesthetics of those years. Nevertheless, it had a long life, being produced until 1986. In 1973, the first oil crisis hit the market hard, forcing us to lower the engine's power output to just 240 hp. After 6 years of development, it was finally ready, and was launched in autumn 1977 to win the European Car of the Year award for 1978, not surprising given its on-board technology and originality.
