Henri-Joseph HARPIGNIES (1819 - 1916) The painter Harpignies on the motif Oil on canvas 24.5 x 35 cm Signed and dated lower left 72 Reproduced in Georges Pillement, Les Pré-impressionnistes, n°187, page 179 under the title Paysage au pêcheur. In 1872, the artist was living in Hérisson, and in these years he painted Le Saut-du Loup, the name of the site on the banks of the Aumance river and its rocks, on numerous occasions. These include the work sold at Christie's Paris on June 22, 2005, one in the Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Orléans (Inv. 495), another in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Besançon (Inv. D.874.2.4), and one from the Michael Pächt collection. This work will be listed in the catalog raisonné currently being prepared by Mr. Jean Pierre Cappoen, Ph.D. in art history, whom we thank.
