Cembro pine butter board with engraved decoration. In the shape of a semicircle, it is decorated on the front with three rosettes and a band bearing the following inscriptions: date 1676, Christian monogram IHS, fleur-de-lys (partially faded), owner's IF monogram; reverse side decorated with parallel lines and chevrons. Folk art, Dauphiné, Queyras, 17th century, 1676 W. 51.5 cm - D. 25 cm (small accidents) The motifs engraved on the reverse of the board enabled the butter-maker to sign his clods. While many butter boards survive from the 18th and 19th centuries, this one is a unique example from the last third of the 17th century. Provenance : - Former Centre region collection
