Gilt bronze medal by Guillaume Dupré (Sissone, circa 1576 - Paris, 1643), Paris, 1603. A / Joined busts of Henri IV and Marie de Médicis in right profile. The king wears a cuirass decorated with foliage and the cordon with the cross of the Order of the Holy Spirit; the queen, with her hair up and a rose, wears a large collar raised with lace. Inscription HENR.IIII R . CHRIST . MARIA . AVGVSTA . (Henry the Fourth, Most Christian King and the august Mary) and Dupré's signature G.DVPRE.F[ecit]. R / Henri IV as Mars holds a spear in his left hand and clasps the right hand of Marie de Médicis as Minerva in the other; between them, the Dauphin holding his father's helmet on his head and placing one foot on a dolphin; an eagle comes from the sky with a crown in its beak. Inscription. PROPAGO IMPERI . (Spread the Empire) and date 1603. D. 66.3 mm The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., holds a gilded copper example with ram from the Kress collection (inv. 1957.14.1151), while the Musée du Louvre holds a bronze example (inv. OA785).
