Description

Domed-top case with oak core, decorated with openwork bone plaques set on a linen background, decorated with Gothic rosettes and fillings, flowers and foliage, embossed and molded brass fittings. Alpine region of southern Germany, 16th century H. 15.5 cm - W. 24.6 cm - D. 11.5 cm Key Collection label on bottom. (small accidents and missing parts, one plate redone, lock dismantled) Sofia Rodriguez Bemis, director of Barcelona's Museu Nacional de Artes Decorativas, has likened this case from the former Junyent collection to the Nuremberg production based on the use of brass. This thesis does not seem very convincing and it would be more likely to locate the production of this type of box further south, perhaps in the Alpine regions of southern Germany. Provenance : - Former Oleguer Junyent (1876-1956) collection, Barcelona. Oleguer Junyent (1876-1956) was a painter, decorator, collector and antiquarian best known for his round-the-world voyage in 1908. - Purchased at Tefaf from Artur Ramon, antique dealer, Madrid - Private collection, Barcelona Exhibitions : - Barcelona Exhibition 1929, El arte en Espana, Palacio nacional, cat.
