Gilded bronze plaque depicting the Virgin and Child. Seated on a high-backed pulpit, the Virgin carries the Child in her hands, her head tilted towards her right shoulder; she is surrounded by six cherubs in various attitudes, two holding garlands of flowers, one playing the flute, the other three grasping her long hair or parts of her cloak. Two mounting holes. Germany, Augsburg, entourage of Hans Schwarz (1492- active until 1532), circa 1520 H. 13.5 cm - L. 10 cm (a hole on the lower right) Several examples of this beautiful plate are preserved in various museums, most in bronze, sometimes in lead as in the Louvre (inv. OA 2556), as well as one in carta pesta preserved by the city of Augsburg. Works consulted: - I.
