Description

Shrine with oak core, engraved, champlevé, enameled and gilded copper, six applique figures, colored glass cabochons, blue, light blue, green, yellow, white and red enamels. The front and roof plates are adorned with doll figures and cabochons on a guilloché background punctuated with four leaves; those on the reverse are decorated with X's and squared reserves; the gables feature angel figures with raised wings on a squared background; pierced crest. Limoges, circa 1220/30 H. 14.5 cm - W. 13.1 cm - D. 6.5 cm Former collector's label 250 (some missing parts and alterations, including replacement of the central headstock in the lower part and plates with repoussé rinceaux) A similarly decorated shrine is preserved in Namur in the Trésor de la cathédrale Saint-Aubain illustrated in Cat.
