Gilded bronze buckle plate with bas-relief decoration of a griffin in profile raising its right front paw; four rivets on the reverse. 12th/13th century L. 4.7 cm (slightly missing and deformed) The style of this griffin on this attractive belt or harness element can be compared to those embroidered on the Clare Chasuble in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. 673-1864, fig.). Embroidered in England in 1272-1294, they are considered to belong to an earlier style inherited from the Romanesque period.
