Gilbert & George (Gilbert Prousch, born 1943 St. Martin in Thurn/South Tyrol, & George Passmore, born 1942 in Plymouth) "The Postal Sculptures": collection of greeting and invitation cards Letterpress and lithograph or offset lithograph/paper, 1971-1973, each signed in red. Published by Art for All, London. Contains four (of eight) cards from the series "Pink Elephants" (1973) with two addressed envelopes; four (of eight) cards from the series "The Eight Limericks" (1971), a greeting card "Gentlemen..." (1972) and an invitation card for "The Singing Sculptures" and "The Descriptive Works" on September 25 - October 8, 1971 at the "Sonnabend" in New York. The greeting cards are each addressed to Dr. Peter Beye (born 1932 Berlin), the then (until 1994) director of the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart. Sheet dimensions 14.1 cm x 9 cm to 20.3 cm x 12.7/25.4 cm. The artist couple Gilbert Prousch and George Passmore developed the so-called "Postal Sculptures" at a time when they did not yet have access to galleries or museums and still wanted to be heard as artists. The works therefore went directly through the letterbox into the human living space and immediately met with a great response from the public. Collection of seven greeting cards and one invitation card, 1971-1973. Letterpress, lithograph and offset lithograph cards with two envelopes. Each hand-signed. Addressed to Dr. Peter Beye, former director of the State Gallery in Stuttgart, Germany.
