Michkati MADI, born 1987 Refuge 2, Terre de Bretagne, Ar Seiz Avel Collection, 2024 Mixed media on linen canvas. Dried natural pigments worked with a brush (yellow sand, orange, crushed cockles, black clay, green stone pigment) and sponge-aged fabric. Signed lower right on canvas 3/3. Triptych: 210 x 139 cm (can be divided) Adorned with the bowels of the earth, the palette marries the linen fiber to offer an immersion, sometimes in the sandpit of Saint-Malo-de-Phily, sometimes on the Breton coast at low tide, during a sunset. --- Michkati MADI, born 1987 Originally from the Comoros Islands, Madi Michkati has lived in Brittany since 2016. In her artistic practice, she values the essence of local earth, delicately working the vibrant colors offered by the regional climate. She fixes colored pigments on fabric by mixing earth and starch, revisiting ancestral earthwork. Her palette ranges from white to black, including ochres and greens, using only sun-dried stones and earth, crushed and/or kneaded according to their density to create her pigments. To this, she adds the inlay of crushed shells, recalling the link to her native island. Her influences range from cave art to old buildings, enhancing the color of stone. A blend of innovation and tradition. She can superimpose up to seven layers on linen, offering immersion in the Breton landscape and inviting reflection on art, nature and regional culture. Her work is a tactile and visual exploration of the earth, seeking to preserve the memories and emotions it evokes about Brittany. For Ar Seiz Avel, Michkati Madi designed Menhir, inspired by the legends and myths surrounding Celtic folklore, this sail sculpture stands like a monolith and is a nod to the menhirs of Carnac. Slightly tilted, its balance is emphasized by the combination of the stones, including Morbihan granite, and the voile fabric of which it is made. Refuge 1 and 2 are the result of a meditative process, from the preparation of the pigments to their application to the fabric, in which the lands of Brittany capture the eye, immersing us in the sandpit of Saint-Malo-de-Phily and the Breton coast at low tide, during a sunset.

Triptych: 210 x 139 cm (can be divided) The result of meditative work, from the preparation of pigments to their application to fabric, Terres de Bretagne captures the eye; thoughts shift between two worlds. A vegetal landscape, dominating the setting in which the work was conceived, and an organic world in which the elements merge. --- Michkati MADI, born 1987 Originally from the Comoros Islands, Madi Michkati has lived in Brittany since 2016.
