Éva JOSPIN (né en 1975)

Forest Collage of corrugated cardboard mounted on a wooden frame. 148 x 100 cm Provenance: - Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve, Paris, acquired February 27, 2014. Eva Jospin grew up in an environment conducive to culture and intellectual reflection. Graduating from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2002, she quickly established herself in the contemporary art world with her unique approach and technical mastery. Following her studies at the Beaux-Arts, she began exploring different media before devoting herself to a specific artistic practice that sets her apart today: cardboard sculpture. Her widely acclaimed work is exhibited in numerous galleries and museums in France and abroad. Notable exhibitions include her participation in the Nuit Blanche in Paris in 2013, where she installed an imposing cardboard forest in the square courtyard of the Louvre. She has also exhibited at the Fondation Bullukian in Lyon, the Palais de Tokyo, and most recently at the Palais des Pape in Avignon. Her material of choice is cardboard, which she sculpts with remarkable precision and meticulousness to create complex, three-dimensional forest landscapes. This choice of material, humble and banal, contrasts with the grandeur and majesty of the works she succeeds in extracting from it, highlighting the beauty hidden in everyday objects. Her cardboard sculptures are often monumental and immersive, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in recreated natural environments. Through this process, Eva Jospin questions our relationship with nature, the idea of the forest as a place of mystery and refuge, and notions of memory and temporality. She draws as much inspiration from mythical and literary forests as from real landscapes. The meticulous work of cutting, superimposing and assembling cardboard reflects a rigorous, patient, almost meditative approach to craftsmanship, evident in the finesse of the details and the density of the compositions. Today, Eva Jospin is a major figure in French contemporary art, renowned for her ability to transform simple materials into works of great complexity and striking beauty. Her artistic approach blends poetry, technique and reflection on nature, inviting us to rediscover the magic and richness of forests, and to reflect on our own relationship with the natural world.
