Syrian salon, 19th century Set of four folding chairs and a pedestal table in carved wood inlaid with mother-of-pearl and stained wood. The chairs have a poly-lobed pediment housing an inscription in a cartouche and an inlaid star, the back has five vertical wooden uprights and the seat is decorated with carved bifid palmette scrolls punctuated with small mother-of-pearl stars. The pedestal table has five legs separated by arcatures and linked by a spacer, and a removable decagonal top with calligraphic decoration in Arabic thuluth radiating around an inlaid eight-pointed star and a round of endless knots, the date (fictitious) of 976 H / 1568, seemingly hidden in the inscription. Dim. pedestal table: H. 61 cm; D. max.: 59 cm; dim. chair: H. 97 cm; W. max. 44.5 cm Damage and missing parts, wood split in places, woodworm holes.
