Coat of arms of the Kingdom of Egypt, first half of the 20th century Carved, stuccoed, painted and gilded wood panel surmounted by the Egyptian royal crown topped with a crescent moon. Beneath the crown, a red curtain with gilded trimmings reveals a laurel medallion housing a crescent moon embracing three five-pointed stars and topped with the same royal crown. Resting on two feet. Height: 109 cm; max. width 68.5 cm A few cracks, chips, missing polychromy and gilding. The Kingdom of Egypt came into being in 1922, after the country was granted independence by the British. The coat of arms was adopted by Royal Decree on December 10, 1923. It represented Egypt for three decades, until the Republican eagle replaced it in 1953.
