Description
Chemla et fils, bonbonnière and cup decorated with "peacock eye" ocelli, Tunisia, first half of the 20th century Earthenware with polychrome painted decoration of brown ocelli on a plain colored background, green for the bonbonnière, yellow for the cup. The circular bonbonnière with lid, the hemispherical cup with ring handle. Both pieces inscribed "Awlad Chemla (Chemla & Fils), Tunis" with a fleur-de-lys on the inside of the bonbonnière and its lid, and on the inside of the cup. Candy box: D. 17.5 cm, H. 7 cm; cup: D. 9.5 cm; H. 4.2 cm Chips on the rim of the bonbonnière and on the projection of its lid, small chip on the lip of the cup. The "fleurette", which can be likened to a pansy, is said to be the mark of Gabrielle dite Gabo, related to Jacob Chemla's wife.
