Chemla et fils, small vase with animal decoration in the Iznik style, Tunisia, Tunis, first half of the 20th century Small globular vase on a circular foot, with a narrow neck and everted lips connected to the body by two arched handles. Earthenware painted with a band of passing animals alternating between two hares, a dog and three birds, framed by floral motifs. Under the foot, an Arabic inscription locating the piece in Tunis and giving the name of the workshop "Awlad Chemla" (Chemla et Fils) accompanied by a stylized bird. Height: 12 cm Small accidents and restorations to the neck and handles, slightly faded inscription. An Iznik-inspired tile decorated with a medallion with floral stems, a deer and a bird, inscribed on the reverse with four feet "Awlad Chemla, Tunis" with the fish, mark of Moïse Chemla. 20 x 20 cm; glaze chips in the corners and on the upper edge, cracking. The stylized bird visible on the vase next to the workshop name is an unidentified signature of the Chemla dynasty of ceramists. It repeats a motif found on early Qallaline earthenware.
