Mughal kulah khud helmet, North India, 18th/19th century Steel helmet with a hemispherical stamp surmounted by a four-sided point, the front riveted with two tubes with aigrettes on either side of a later mobile nasal, the base highlighted with a fine mesh camail. The stamp and the aigrettes holders are engraved with floral compositions, some of them with silvery lines, or with single irises set in poly-lobed medallions. The tip of the top is engraved with veins, and the nasal with a plant motif featuring birds. Total height: approx. 44 cm; diameter: 19.7 cm Twisted tip, corrosion, some old restorations, small missing camail, nasal probably replaced later. The atypical floral decoration on this helmet makes attribution complex. A helmet in London's Victoria and Albert Museum (3519:1 to 3/(IS)), attributed to Gwalior in the 19th century, features similar flowers. A Helmet Kulah Khud, North India, 18tH / 19th Century
