Portraits of Timurid and Mughal rulers, India, Company School, late 19th - early 20th century Medallion frame housing nineteen bust portraits of rulers painted in gouache on card stock cut into medallions and glued to a gilded background. The portraits, whose names are captioned with a European-style transcription, represent sovereigns of the Timurid dynasty such as Tamerlane or Mirân Shâh, as well as Mughal emperors such as Akbar, Jahangir, or Alamgir I and Indian sultans such as Sultan Mahmûd or Mizz ud-dîn. Total diam.: 22 cm; portrait diam.: approx. 4 cm; central portrait diam.: 4.7 cm Some stains and retouching (mainly on the portrait backgrounds), gilding and folds in the gilded background.
