Description

Portrait of Mu'izz al-Mulk, Mughal India, 18th century Ink, gouache and gold on paper depicting the minister seated, legs bent, back resting against a large cushion, on a terrace under a stormy sky. Dressed in a white jama tied with a partially gilded belt, he is wearing a turban and is ginning a misbaha with his left hand. The minister's name is given in an inscription in black ink appearing at one end of the cushion, alongside his title of "Wazîr (minister) Akbar Padshâh". A second inscription in the sky reads "Shâh Zâdeh Mîrza...". Sight size: page: 31 x 17.5 cm; painting: 15 x 13.5 cm Restoration. Provenance: - Sotheby's, London, July 6, 1976 (from a handwritten note on the back). - Christie's, London, April 23, 2012, lot 289.
