Aprox: Mancha: 62,5x45,5 cm # Sofia Areal (1960) Sofia Areal (1960) nasceu em Lisboa, filha do pintor António Areal e de Maria Freitas Pereira, com estudos na área da escultura. Estudou em Inglaterra e em Lisboa, onde frequentou os Cursos de Textile Design e Foundation Course no Hertfordshire College of Arte and Design e Gravura e Pintura na ARCO, Lisboa. Artista multifacetada tem vindo a desenvolver o seu trabalho nas áreas da pintura, desenho, design gráfico, cerâmica, tapeçaria e cenografia. Em 1982, casou com o escultor Rui Sanches, com quem viveu durante 20 anos, estes tiveram um filho, também artista, de seu nome Martim Brion. Participa em mostras coletivas desde a década em que se casou e foi convidada para a primeira exposição em nome individual na década seguinte, pela Galeria Alda Cortez. Em 2012 recebeu o Prémio Femina para as Artes Visuais. Encontra-se em várias coleções públicas e privadas, como a Coleção do Banco Espírito Santo, o Centro de Arte Moderna da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, a Fundação Carmona e Costa, o Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Funchal, o Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Elvas, entre outros.
