The last evolution of the 911 with the boxer engine in its original, air-cooled configuration, the model embodies for many Porsche enthusiasts the last "real" 911. Yet, despite its undeniable family resemblance to previous generations, the car, which was more than 80% new, did not meet with a warm welcome from the public. It's always difficult to reinterpret a myth. By strongly modernizing the 911's timeless lines, in a softer, smoother style, the 993's design undoubtedly broke too much with the 911's original harmony, dear to the die-hard fans of Stuttgart's "Frog". But it was aerodynamics that dictated the decision to polish the 911 type 993 like a pebble, in order to lower the Cx as much as possible, for better air penetration, as had been tried out on its big sister, the 959 supercar. The front end has been flattened and the rear considerably enlarged, in a curvaceous design that has aged particularly well. At the time, the success of this new generation was crucial for the brand. The 993 also featured a large number of different versions to appeal to the widest possible audience. So, after the launch of a cabriolet variant and the rebirth of the Targa in a new form with its panoramic sliding glass sunroof in 1995, the following year, 1996, the Carrera S inherited the "Turbo look" of the 4S. The first Porsche with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 993 features the reworked all-aluminum 3600 cm3 engine of the 964 RS. It's a surprisingly sharp engine, with the typical behavior of the old 911 sports cars, i.e. fairly low torque below 4,000 rpm, but which wakes up violently during acceleration beyond that and up to the maximum power revs with a real roar. The interior has undergone fewer aesthetic changes than the exterior of the 993. The dashboard retains the same design as the 901, but in a slightly more ergonomic version. The quality of the finish has also improved, with the quality of materials and assemblies showing their ageing qualities over time. The culmination of the 911's original lineage, the 993, with its blend of tradition and modernity and a career that lasted just six years, has a special status in the Porsche range and is today universally appreciated. The Porsche 993 Carrera in our sale is a versatile example of this generation of 911, as it is a 272 hp version (M64/05) with all-wheel drive (Carrera 4) and 6-speed manual gearbox. It's a rare narrow-bodied car, in a beautiful "Midnight Blue Metallic" hue with white front and orange rear lights, combined with a sandy-beige leather interior and matching carpets. It is mounted on 17-inch Cup II wheels with grey brake calipers. It benefits from a number of valuable options, including sunroof and electric seats, cruise control, trip computer, air conditioning and rear wiper. This 993 was delivered new in France and put on the road on January 1, 1995. As such, it is a 1995 model year car. It had only four owners before the current one acquired it over fifteen years ago. As an automotive professional and collector, he has taken great care to maintain his car personally. Used sparingly, it now boasts just under 154,000 original kilometers on the odometer. In good working order, it is in satisfactory overall condition.
