Bouillon, Aux dépens de la Société Typographique, 1777; small in-12, 61 pp, bound in contemporary full marbled calf, smooth spine decorated, edges painted red, red morocco title-piece. Joseph-Aignan Sigaud de Lafond, born in 1730 and died in 1810 in Bourges, was a French physicist and teacher who, along with his master Abbé Nollet, was one of the promoters of experimental physics and its teaching, notably by creating the first "physics cabinets". The author is also known to have been professor of mathematics and demonstrator of experimental physics at the University of Montpellier, and a member of the Academies of Angers, Bavaria, Valladolid and Florence.
