Andrew Jackson Lock of Hair with Provenance from Great-Grandson Significant lock of Jackson’s hair, measuring approximately 2.5″ long, affixed with a period green wax seal to a 6 x 3.5 printed notecard of Forest H. Sweet bearing a provenance note, in full: “Hair of General Andrew Jackson, a portion of lot 96 of the Personal Relics of President Andrew Jackson consigned and guaranteed genuine by Andrew Jackson the Fourth.” Affixed to a same-size foamcore mount and in fine condition. Research indicates that this lock of hair was part of a lot auctioned at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on April 13-14, 1927. Locks of presidential hair are rare and highly sought by collectors of history and Americana, with this particular example complemented by ironclad familial provenance—direct from the great-grandson of Andrew Jackson.

Andrew Johnson (3) Impeachment Trial Ephemera Three items related to Andrew Johnson and his historic 1868 impeachment trial: Original green 4.75 x 3 full ticket to the U.S. Senate impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson on April 9, 1868, complete with its unnumbered stub, marked "To be taken up at Main Entrance." The ticket is affixed to a slightly larger cardstock mount. The impeachment proceedings lasted from March 13 to May 26th, and President Johnson was ultimately acquitted by a single vote. Rare 4 x 2.25 carte-de-visite photo of the seven impeachment managers for the impeachment trial of Andrew Johnson (Benjamin F. Butler, Thaddeus Stevens, Thomas Williams, John A. Bingham, James F. Wilson, George S. Boutwell, and John A. Logan), published by Brady’s National Photographic Portrait Galleries. Reverse bears period collector’s notations. A 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait photo of Andrew Johnson in a bust-length pose. In overall fine condition.

Handwritten legal document, in full: “Jonathan Gay late of Lancaster County yeoman was attach'd to answer Andrew Johnson & Rebecca His wife of a plea of trespass on the case / and Whereupon the s’d Andrew & Rebecca by George Ross their attorney complain that whereas a certain Margery Gay, the daughter of the sd: Rebecca an infant under the age of twenty one years the third day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & fifty five at Lancaster in the County of Lancaster did Give & continue by reason whereof the said Andrew & Rebecca great comfort and satisfaction from the company & conversation of the said Margery did get & receive also great gain profit & advantage from the work labour & service of the sd: Margery did get & acquire Nevertheless the sd: Jonathan not being ingnorant of the Premisses but designing them the sd: Andrew & Rebecca as well of the Company & Conversation as of the service of the said Margery & of all the pleasure satisfaction profits & advantages which the said Andrew & Rebecca by Reason of the company conversation & service of the said Margery should have & gain to deceive & defraud her the sd: Margery afterwards to wit the third day of February in the year afsd: at Lancaster in the County afsd: from the said Andrew & Rebecca to depart without the knowledge & against the will & consent of the said Andrew & Rebecca did intice & procure by reason whereof the said Andrew & Rebecca the company conversation & service of the sd: Margery for a long time to wit for the space of two months & fifteen days altogether hath lost to the damage of the sd: Andrew & they bring suit & pledge.” Signed at the conclusion by Ross. Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet and in very good to fine condition, with slightly irregular toning, and splitting to the central horizontal fold.
