Desessartz, 1711. 8 volumes in-18 (h = 138 mm. hors rel.), contemporary lavallière maroquin, spines with 5 ornate nerves, title-pieces in red and fawn maroquin, compartments decorated with small irons, gilded lace and fillet edging the boards, gilded coat of arms in the center, gilded roulettes at the necks and chasses, edges gilded over marbling, headpieces restored (a few dull corners, discreet worm spots at the tail of one spine). A fine copy, elegantly ruled and bound, bearing the arms of Paul de Beauvilliers, Duc de Saint-Aignan (1648-1714), Governor of the Duc de Bourgogne, then Governor of the Duc d'Anjou and Duc de Berry, and finally Minister of State (OHR 696 fer 3).

Nouvelle édition ornée de 300 figures, gravées d'après les dessins de M. Marillier (et Monsiau). Paris, Defer de Maisonneuve (de l'Imprimerie de Monsieur), [tomes 1 à 3] ; Defer de Maisonneuve, [tomes 4 et 9] ; Bastien, Ponce, [tome 5] imprimerie de Didot jeune; Gay, Ponce, Belin [tomes 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 et 12], 1789-An XII (1804). 1789. 12 volumes. 14 by 22 cm. 300 hors-texte engravings (complete), and one folding map. Contemporary full havana calf, richly ornamented smooth spine, red title-piece, black tomaison, framing of the boards by a double chain, roulette on the edges, gilt edges. Boards with very imposing coats of arms, those of the Union of Sweden-Norway (from 1844). Minor superficial defects to binding, three headpieces damaged. Light foxing. The last volume contains the table, a Chronologie sainte, a Dictionnaire de la géographie sacrée and the list of subscribers; it is adorned with a fold-out map of the Holy Land by Pierre Grégoire Chanlaire. Famous edition of the Bible in the Port-Royal translation, mainly by Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy. A fine copy of this ever-popular Bible translation. Very fine illustration by MARILLIER, which it is unusual to find complete.
