BOILEAU-DESPREAUX - Satires and works. Amsterdam, Chez Henry Schelte, 1743; in-12, frontispiece, XXXI, table, 491 pp, bound in contemporary full marbled calf, 5-rib spine, speckled edges, red morocco title-piece, lower cap missing. Good condition. Nicolas Boileau, also known as Boileau-Despreaux, quickly abandoned his career as a lawyer, which he had begun in 1656, and immediately achieved great success with the six satires inspired by Horace and Juvenal, which he published in 1666.
