DEVAMBEZ (1867-1944). Lakescape. Mixed media on stamped, painted and varnished cardboard, signed lower right, depicting a lakeside landscape animated by figures and birds. Abstract motifs on a red background. Mounted on a stained wood table screen in the style of a Chinese scholar's screen. Dimensions: 33.5x21.5 cm. A rare and original work in both technique and style, there is currently no known equivalent in the work of André Devambez. Directly inspired by Chinese art, the singularity of the object is no less characteristic of the artist's facetious production.
