Bronze token Obverse / Busts of Tristan de Rostaing (1513-1591) and Françoise Robertet (circa 1532-1580), surmounted by their half-partite arms, TRISTAN DE ROSTAING ET FRANCOISE ROBERTET 1582. Reverse / Busts of Philippe Hurault (1528-1599) and Anne de Thou (1546 - 1584) surmounted by their semi-detached arms, PHILIP HVRAVLT CHANCELIER DE FR ET ANNE DE THOV 1595. Late 16th century, 1595 Diameter: 3.2 cm (wear) Example in the Musée Carnavalet (Inv. NJ2834). Tristan de Rostaing was born on January 5, 1513 in Sury-le Comtal, Forez. He was a page to Constable Anne, Duc de Montmorency, and later to Charles de France, Duc d'Orléans, who appointed him Master of the King's Guard-Robe in 1539, then First Gentleman of the King's Chamber the same year. He married Françoise Robertet on June 15, 1544, with whom he had 4 children. Philippe Hurault, comte de Cheverny (Cheverny, March 25, 1528 - Cheverny, July 30, 1599) was a 16th-century French magistrate. He was Keeper of the Seals of France from 1578, then Chancellor of France from 1583 to 1588 and from 1590 to 1599. He married Anne de Thou, after obtaining a dispensation from Rome in 1566.
