Perfume bottle with filigree decoration Gold Iran or Levant, circa 11th century Height: 4.5 cm This small gold vial is decorated with filigree and granulations forming geometric motifs on the body and small lid. Two handles formed by a set of filigree scrolls open out on the body, and are here knotted above the lid. Few examples of gold pieces of this type are known. Most surviving gold objects from this period are jewels (large pearls, necklaces and earrings) made using this technique of filigree and gold granulation. Perfume bottles of this type are rare. A similar piece with comparable decoration is in the collections of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar (inv. n°JE.142.2003). Expert : Mr Alexis RENARD
