Description

ARMAND GUILLAUMIN (1841-1927) ÎLE-DE-FRANCE LANDSCAPE, CIRCA 1885 Oil on canvas Signed lower left Oil on canvas; signed lower left 65 X 81 CM - 25 5/8 X 31 7/8 IN. A notice of inclusion from the Comité Guillaumin in the second volume of the Catalogue Raisonné Armand Guillaumin will be given to the buyer. "At a time when Guillaumin felt increasingly drawn to dawn and dusk, a new turning point emerged in his painting. The luminous compositions of the late 1970s, in which he was still obsessed with the problems of light, gradually gave way to canvases that betrayed his growing preoccupation with color. [...] In the mid-eighties, Guillaumin never falsified the values of chiaroscuro in his quest for more eloquent color effects. Like the other Impressionists, he works more and more in small strokes." Armand Guillaumin "de la lumière à la couleur" (From light to color) Musée d'art et d'histoire, Belfort: 199, p. 32.
