Goffin Alain

Alain Goffin (1956) graduated from Atelier R de bandes dessinées at the Ecole Saint Luc in Brussels (1975-1979). He took part in the Neuvième Rêve (1979) with François Schuiten, Berthet, Sokal and others. He published his first strips in the monthly comics magazine "A SUIVRE", starting with issue no. 1 (1980). With François Rivière, he created the character of Thierry Laudacieux, a Brussels boy scout. They published two albums with Casterman: LE RESEAU MADOU (1982) and LA MINE DE L'ETOILE (1984). He began a new collaboration with Benoît Peeters and François Schuiten as scriptwriters, drawing PLAGIAT! (Editions Les Humanoïdes Associés, 1989). This album was awarded the coveted Prix RTL 1990 de la BD. The album is a ferocious fable about a modern, worldly painter who, having been plagiarized, experiences a descent into hell. Next came LE THEOREME DE MORCOM (Editions Les Humanoïdes Associés, 1992), based on a breathless scenario by Benoît Peeters. The theme of this book is the appearance of the first computers during the Second World War. Benoît Peeters and Alain Goffin went on to write an illustrated novel for teenagers, LE SIGNE DE LUCIFER (Editions Nathan, 1990), which won the French Community of Belgium's Lecture Publique prize. With RETOUR A LA RAPEE (Editions Arboris, 1993), Alain Goffin signed the text and illustrations for the first time. In 1997, he published a new album, NORTHREED PROJECT, with Editions Dargaud, as a full scriptwriter and illustrator. A thriller set in Burbank, California, in the '40s, it follows the life of an industrial designer immersed in the ultra-confidential world of flying wing construction.
